IFA OF THE YEAR 2021/2022

IFA OF THE YEAR 2021/2022 FROM OKE-ITASE, ILE-IFE, STATE OF OSUN, NIGERIA.
Eriwo ya!
We greet you all in the name of Olodumare, Orunmila and all other Orisa. We also extend the greetings of Araba Agbaye (the permanent Chairman of the Council of Araba/Oluwo, the pillar of the International Council for Ifa Religion (ICIR)) to you all in this season of the World Ifa Festival. With combine efforts of Board of Ethics and Scripture and the Council of Elders of ICIR, we the members of Publication Committee of the Oke-Itase 2021/2022 Organising Committee set up by the International Council for Ifa Religion are hereby presenting verses of the Ifa of the year recited with inspiration by the priests on the mat in the early hour of Sunday, 6th June, 2021, which stands as the first day of the year in Ifa calendar system. The Odu Ifa that came out for this year is OSE-OKANRAN (OSE on the right, OKANRAN on the left). The Odu came with Ire Aiku (Longevity) and ebo is recommended. Ifa Priests from Nigeria, Republic of Benin, Republic of Togo, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Germany, United States of America, Venezuela, Cuba, Argentina, Panama, Britain, Switzerland, Ghana and Sweden were all there and made their contributions. The verses of OSEO-KANRAN recited with their narratives are below:
1.
Ifa said this is a year of blessings. Many people who are planning traveling abroad will be successful in their plans this year while people who stay at home will also receive blessings. We need to make ebo to always come across fortunes as we go out every day.
There will be a lot of rain especially in the night this year. Human activities especially blocking of waterways will cause flood disaster. Ifa says we should avoid that.
People should refrain from travelling at night for various dangers. Also, when it rains during the day, it is good for us to allow the rain to touch our body, but not to get soaked. Items of ebo include 8 pigeons, honey, gin, soap, money and Ifa leaves. After making the ebo, akose will be done with soap for the person to bath. On this Ifa says:
i.

5.
We should be careful of strangers. People should not accommodate unknown persons. Landlords/Indigenes are warned to be very vigilant before accepting tenants so that tenants would not bring hardships and dangers to the hosts. They will come with hidden agenda. Ifa says tenants with bad intentions will be exposed and expelled. The landlords must however be security conscious. Items of ebo include, a cutlass, giant rat, palm oil, money and corn meal. On this Ifa says:
Agba orogun la n ri

A difa fun Alaka
To n lo ree digba mo Iroko

Nobody mentions senior mother-in-law
Ifa revelation to Alaka

6.
We should be our brother’s keeper. When there is problem with anybody, the whole community must be fast at aiding the person or combating the problem so that the problem will not degenerate into affecting the whole community.
Ifa says we should not look away from sickness, death or problem of a single person or community lest it degenerate into mass death. Items of ebo include 3 rosters, palm oil, money and corn meal. On this Ifa says:

When an issue turns abnormal, it will affect even the person who knows nothing about it
Ifa revelation to 164 animals
They were advised to make ebo to avert death for Etu, the antelope so that they would not all die
They refused to make ebo
The arrow then said “Your own has caught you”
Note: The verse above tells story of Etu, the antelope, who was sick. All animals were told to take care of him and made ebo for him. They all refused. When hunters came to kill them, they all ran away except Etu, the antelope, who was too weak to run. It was killed. Then, the hunter flayed it and later used its hide to make arrow which the hunter later used to kill the other animals
7.
People, especially kings, religious leaders and politicians should refrain from fraudulent activities; Ifa said scammers are too many among religious leaders (Ifa/Orisa priests inclusive), Kings and politicians. Many people are too greedy that they want treasures that are meant for the whole community or nation to be theirs alone, many people after receiving their own shares still go extra mile to claim what belong to others while many in the spiritual/religious vocation claim to be what they are not. Ifa is warning people concerned to refrain from this act to escape the wrath of Olodumare and for the community or nation to be better for it. On this, Ifa says:
Ti ose nijo
Ti olokanran layo
A difa fun Olufidan Okoko
Ti won bi loje
To n jeun oloro kiri
Ose’s lot is dance
Okanran’s lot is joy
Cast Ifa for Olufidan okoko
Who was a priest of Egungun by birth
But was greedily eating through Oro deity
8.
People should refrain from adultery for it will be leading to fights and untimely death. We should also refrain from making jest of people. One needs to control one’s tongue lest he/she brings misfortunes to him/herself through utterances. Ifa says some men are so adulterous and bold that they are having secret affairs with the wives of the fellow landlords in the community, even women in the opposite houses. On this, Ifa says:
i.
Seranseran leni ti jewo fun
A difa fun Okere
To n lo ree gba Sesere obirin Oka
Person who denies committing a crime have at least a confidant he/she confesses to
Ifa revelation to Okere, the Squirrel
When going to snatch Sesere, the wife of Oka, the Cobra
Note:
According to the verse, Okere, the Squirrel snatched a wife of Oka, the Cobra. It did not stop at that; it was making jest of Oka, the Cobra, any where the wife snatcher saw the ex-husband. Oka, the Cobra later killed Okere, the squirrel.

Eyi ti yoo maa yo obinrin okankan fe

9.
Married women should also refrain from unnecessary familiarity or play with people so that their husbands will not be suspicious of them. Men should also give necessary respect to married women so that their unhealthy play with them will not send them out of their matrimonial home. Adultery issues will be rampant this year. Both men and women should refrain from any kind of immoral sexual activities to guide against diseases and disgrace. All godchildren must be faithful to their godfathers or godmothers. On this, Ifa says:
Odooro lebe Akuo
Adifa fun Ide ti n se obinrin Orisa
Asin awo oludoro
Ikamudu awo oluseka
Eta abiru gbagia awo abe ogan
Awon meteeta ni won petepero

They were the ones who conspired together
And inflicted Ide, the Brass, with unpleasant odour
Ide, the Brass was sent parking from Ifon
Ide, the Brass was expelled from Ojo
Nobody knows what Ide, the Brass did to Orisa
Note:
The verse above is about Ide, the Brass who was a wife of Obatala. One day, Obatala perceived the odour of Asin, Ikamudu and Eta on Ide, his wife’s body. The wife claimed she was just playing with them while Obatala claimed she has committed adultery with them. He sent Ide (the brass) ,the wife away and Osun later accommodated her.
10.
Polygyny is encouraged against going for divorce or having extra marital affairs. Also, any monogamous man who is experiencing blockage of fortunes should marry more wife(s) and this will destroy the blockage. Also, for the couples who are barren, marrying another wife will lead to fertility for the first wife. In other words, the senior wife will also have child once the junior wife has child. Items of ebo include 8 pigeons, gin, banana, egg and money. On this, Ifa says:
Ti Ose nijo
Ti Olokanran layo
A difa fun oniyawo agbele
Won ni ko fe aya le aya ko le baa ni ire
Igba ti a gbe oge lori oge ni ire wa n de
To dance is the lot of Ose
To rejoice is the lot of Okanran
If revelation to a man who would marry many wives
He was advised to marry many wives for him to be successful
It is when we married more wives that we received blessings of all nature
11.
Men should be responsible at home. They should be responsible financially and in other ways. Women are also advised to refrain from working against or starving their husbands. Also, in the polygamous house, co-wives should not gang up or conspire against the husband. Women should be submissive to their husbands. Any woman who has conspired against her husband needs to appease Ifa with a goat. The breast of the goat will be put on the Ikin. On this, Ifa says:

Cast Ifa for Olokanran
Who said she would not make breakfast for the husband
Orita meta abaya gbaa
Cast Ifa for Esenideure, the daughter of Onilaawo
Death killed Ose
Death killed Olokanran
Alade, take goat’s breast and eat
So that death will not kill Esenideure
Note:
The verse above tells the story of three women of the same husband, who ganged up to punish their husband. They left all their responsibilities. Later, two of them died one after the other, when the third one fell sick, he immediately confessed. She made ebo and appeased Ifa with a goat. They put the breast of the goat on Ifa. She started taking care of her husband and she recovered in a moment.
12.
We should not play with fire. Ebo is needed so that there will not be any kind of inferno. Also, individuals should be careful at home or in the place of work to guide against outbreak of fire. On this, Ifa says:
Ile raninrain Babalawo Oyin
Oun lo difa fun Oyin
Ero ipo tofa
E ko rifa awo ki bo ti n se?
Ile raninrain the Ifa priest of Oyin
Cast Ifa for Oyin, the Bee
All and sundry
Don’t you see how Ifa pronouncement is coming to pass?
13.
There are three leaders of Yoruba race who are fighting with each other. They should make ebo so that the fight would not consume them. If the ebo is not made, two of them will be consumed; only one of them will survive the storm. Items of ebo include giant rats and snails with palm oil, money and cutlass. On this, Ifa says:
Ose onide la i maa peri
Okanran gude ma ni
A difa fun Asin to n se awo ilu Idoro

Cast Ifa for Ikamudu, the priest in the city of Isika
Cast Ifa for eta, the priest in the city of Ijegbon

14.
Appeasement of Ifa with a goat is recommended for economic development of individuals. On this, Ifa says:

If we persevere to serve Ifa

16.
Some leaders and kings are agents of foreigners who are working towards destruction of Yoruba tradition and culture. Ifa said such kings will be destroyed instead. Ifa said practitioners of Yoruba Indigenous Religion should not be afraid for nobody can destroy the religion. Ifa said this religion will continue to survive and grow and those agents of destruction will surely be put to shame. Those leaders and kings are advised to turn a new leaf for them not to witness the wrath of Olodumare. On this, Ifa says:
Ti Ose nijo

We should see everybody as our friends and not enemies. Ifa said, when we are generous to everybody in the community, the enemies will be overpowered. There are enemies who are seriously against Ifa/Orisa priests in our communities. Ifa said all Ifa and Orisa priests and priestesses should be nice and generous in their various communities. They must be generous to everybody. Ifa said, by being generous to people, the enemies will harm themselves. Eriwo ya!
We greet you all in the name of Olodumare, Orunmila and all other Orisa. We also extend the greetings of Araba Agbaye (the permanent Chairman of the Council of Araba/Oluwo, the pillar of the International Council for Ifa Religion) to you all in this season of the World Ifa Festival. We, the members of Publication Committee of the Oke-Itase 2018/2019 Organising Committee set up by the International Council for Ifa Religion are hereby presenting verses of the Ifa of the year recited with inspiration by the priests on the mat in the early hour of Sunday, 3rd June, 2018, which stands as the first day of the year in Ifa calendar system. The Odu Ifa that came out for this year is IRETEIKA (Irete on the right, Ika on the left). The Odu came with Ire Aya/Oko, fortunes of Spouse and ebo is recommended to make it to come to pass. The verses of IRETEIKA recited with their narratives are as follows:
1.
Ifa has promised us all fortunes this year. This year, people should have patience and not be in haste to acquire things. Ifa says we should make ebo to have good things. With patience after making the ebo, all fortunes will be acquired. The items of ebo are 4 pigeons, honey, gin, pap, kola nuts and money. On this, Ifa says:
Eera ni gbedo ile fulefulefule
A difa fun Animo

Ire gbogbo n wole Animo lo

Ifa revelation to Animo
He whose ancestors have wealth
He whose ancestors have things
Wealth is now going to Animo
In multitude
All good things are now going to Animo

2.
Ifa said people will benefit greatly from travelling out of their respective towns or countries this year. Many people will find their fortunes of riches, spouses, children, works and so on outside their towns or Place of birth. Ebo should be made with 4 pigeons, gin, honey and money. On this Ifa says:
Eke ile lo bale se
Eke won o mohun ile
A difa fun Orunmila
Nijo baba n sawo lo si ode Ibadan
Aje ni n oo ni o ni Ibadan lo wa
Ire gbogbo ni Ibadan lo wa

For those who are longing for children, they need to appease Obatala. To remove cases of miscarriage, it is necessary to make ebo against enemies. Also, it is better to stop shouting at pregnant women to prevent shock that might lead to miscarriage. Also that doing the ebo of this verse will make If practitioners victorious in their endeavours this year. Ebo should be made with 4 snails, kola nuts, 3 cocks, a big rat, palm oil and money. After the ebo, Obatala will be appeased with the snails. On this, Ifa says:

Ifa says people should be hard working and stop stealing or sabotaging other people’s sweat. Also, those who steal other people’s belongings will be caught. To catch thieves, Ogun should be appeased and three gun shots made during the appeasement. To prevent shame, people should refrain from stealing. The ebo to make here include a dog or 3 roosters, yam, beans, palm oil and palm wine. After the ebo, Ogun will be appeased. On this, Ifa says:

People should give due respect to the taboo, law, rules and regulations of the city so that they would not incur the wrath of the ancestors or the super power. More precisely, those who will celebrate Egungun this year should not let any part of the Egungun body exposed. Those who want to travel need to appease Esu so that somebody else will not take their profit. Ifa priests/priestesses should not fight with their clients even when the clients offend, disrespect or are ungrateful. This is to prevent a situation whereby somebody else will harvest what they have worked for. The ebo to make include a he-goat, palm oil, gin and money. Esu will be appeased after the ebo. Also, for anybody who wants his/her organization, city or community greatly populated, he/she should make ebo with 200 rats, 200 fish, 200 tortoise, 200 snails, 200 yam tubers, palm oil, 200 kola nuts, 200 bitter kola, 200 aligator peppers, shear butter and 200 monies. All the Ifa priests in each town should make ebo for longevity of Araba/Oluwo of their respective towns. This is because, Ifa says the incumbent Araba/Oluwo in towns are people of positive energies whose regime are favourable to their subjects. They need to live long for such favourable period to last long. Also, all the god children should make ebo for long life for their god fathers/god mothers for the demise of a god father/god mother will create vacuum that will be difficult to fill. There is a benefactor here whose beneficiaries have to make ebo and be prayerful so that the latter would not suffer owing to the imminent demise of the former. The items of ebo here are white cloth, a big rat, a he-goat, palm oil, pap, kola nuts and money. On this, Ifa says:

This year, daily worship should be taken more serious. For followership, we need to appease Obatala. The items are 8 snails, shear butter, white cloth, pounded yam and money. Also, this year, people should be close to Obatala and wear more white cloths. On this, Ifa says:

Those priests/priestesses who are mischievous should turn new leave. The ancestors will destroy fraudsters in the Ifa/Orisa community. People should be ready to face the consequences of their actions. The wrath of the ancestors will descend on the fraudsters and the good priests/priestesses will be vindicated. Some people are trying to tarnish the images of the Araba/Oluwo of some towns. They are trying to paint them black before the kings of their respective towns. Generally, there are some priests/priestesses here who people have reported to the head of the community or kings. People alleged them of improper rituals. They need to make ebo and appease Egungun. If truly they are innocent of the allegations, they will be vindicated. The items of ebo are a big rat, a he-goat, olele, akara, palm oil, kola nuts, gin and money. As they were making the sacrifice and appeasement, they will be beating the ground. On this, Ifa says:

This year, Ifa says all our lost followers and honours will return or be regained. Most of the run-away followers will be here next year. Also, those who are longing for children here will become parents. The names of the children that they will bring next year should be named Olaside. Ifa however advises us against immoral sexual act this year. This is because, many families will be destroyed through this. On this, Ifa says:

Ifa advises that people should not fight over position or chieftaincy title within the family or town. People should see position or title as part of destiny. Therefore, there should not be envy when someone younger is made chief over the people who are older than him. Siblings or half-brothers should bear in mind that whoever will be chosen as the king, chief or title holder among them has been predestined and cannot be changed. In the community, politics should not be seen as a do or die affair. People should learn to accept political fate and stop fighting over position. Also, the elderly ones should not look down on the younger ones. On this, Ifa says:

Ifa warns all priests/priestesses from directly or indirectly forcing their clients to pledge gift of money or material after efficacy of their work. This year, priests/priestesses who impose any act of vow or pledge on their clients will not be favoured by Olodumare. This does not mean that we cannot take heartedly given gift from the client. We can do, if he/she does it willingly as an act of appreciation. In fact, it is good if priests/priestesses can treat sick clients free of charge this year. On this, Ifa says:

Ifa says couples should not make divorce the solution to their challenges. This year, many divorced couples will remarry. It will happen when either of them has challenges and the only way out will be for him/her to beg the wife/husband. Also, people should not run away from their home or organization lest they have challenges. If it is already committed, the best solution is to go back to the home or to the organization. Any concern women should appease Esu to get husband. Also, Ifa advises that men who believe in polygamy and are capable should feel free to marry more than a wife. Note: We are aware that some people have published some verses of the odu on the internet. We are not saying the verses they published are incorrect, the ones presented here are the ones recited on the festival day when divination process was going on with inspiration from Olodumare. What we mean is that there can be one thousand verses of Ireteika, but inspiration is what is needed to recite the useful ones at the time of divination; it is inspiration that directs a priest towards the verse(s) he recites on the mat. Therefore, the verses recited on the mat when the divination is going on are spiritually most important. We hereby present to you the most spiritually potent verses of Ireteika for the year 2018/2019.

IFA OF THE YEAR 2016/2017 FROM OKE-ITASE, ILE-IFE, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA

OBARAIRETE

IFA OF THE YEAR 2016/2017 FROM OKE-ITASE, ILE-IFE, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA.

Eriwo ya!
We greet you all in the name of Olodumare, Orunmila and all other Orisa. We also extend the greetings of Araba Agbaye to you all in this season of the World Ifa Festival. We, the members of Ethics and Scripture Committee of the International Council for Ifa Religion, are hereby presenting verses of the Ifa of the year recited with inspiration by the priests on the mat in the early hour os Sunday, 5th June, 2016, which stands as the first day of the year in Ifa calendar system. The odu Ifa that came out for this year is OBARAIRETE. The odu came with Ire Aiku, long life and ebo is recommended to acquire it. Ifa Priests from Nigeria, Republic of Benin, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Germany, United States of America, Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba were all there and made their contributions. The verses of OBARAIRETE recited with their narratives are as follows:

1.
Ifa says everybody should take good care of his or her child\children or family (spiritual/biological) before considering teddy or toys. This is because, this year, one’s relation to human being will yield profits than ones relations with teddy or toys. It is said that the future will be determined by the quality of the human beings/resources. To make the future promising for one’s children or relatives, Ifa has recommended ebo with 4 rats, 4 fish, 4 hens, kola nuts, pap, palm oil, gin and money. After the ebo, Ifa will be appeased. On this, Ifa says:
Benu ni won pe oka
Benu n laa pe ere
A difa fun Alaso dudu janjan oke apa
To fomo tie sile laipon
To n pon molubi oni molubi kiri
Awogingi o se gbaragada ka fi rina damodun
Omo eni ni dingi eni

Benu is the name we call cobra
Benu is the name we call python
Ifa revelation to the owner of black cloth on the hill of Apa
Who left her child uncared for
And was caring for another person’s child
Mirror cannot be large for one to see the future
One’s child is one’s mirror for the future

2.
This year, many barren will become parents. They should not be too conscious of their dressing or beauty. Ifa says the barren should not look at the mirror. Any woman who is longing for a child need to make ebo with 4 rats, 4 fish, 4 hens, a goat, kola nuts, gin, palm oil, pap and money. On this, Ifa says:
E ku ana
E ku oni
Aifeniiki ni e ku ijeta o se kira eni
E ku ana lo dun adunju
A difa fun Adeyokun
To n moju ekun sogbere omo
Awojiiji o se feregede
Ka fi rina amodun
Omo eni ni jingi eni

How was yesterday
How was today
It is in attempt not to greet that we say “how was day before yesterday” is not good to say
However, how was yesterday is better
Ifa revelation to Adeyokun
When longing for children
The mirror cannot be large enough
For one to see the future through it
One’s child is one’s mirror

3.
There is fortune for immigrants this year. People who are planning to travel from one place to the other for work or businesses will prosper. The Ifa/Orisa priests who travel to another city/country to do their work need to make ebo to profit over their spiritual job. Ifa has advised inhabitants of each place to trust the outsiders/foreigners who come to their place. This is because, all that the strangers do for the inhabitants will be effective. Ebo to make by anybody who intends to travel includes 16 pigeons, honey, gin, kola nuts, palm oil and money. A goat will also be sacrificed to Ifa. On this, Ifa says:
Ibinni nile aje
Irada nile omokun
Ibi o gbe sunwon la n boyinde
A difa fun Orunmila
Baba n sawo rode Eto Gege
Alade, o de rere! Obararete, abisawo jingbinni

Ibini is the home of wealth
Irada is the home of valuable beads
It is in a comfortable place that we find oyinde beads
Ifa revelation to Orunmila
When he was going to the City of Eto Gege
Alade, you are welcome! Obararete the successful priest

4.
Still about the travelers, Ifa says they will be successful wherever they go. Also, they will return safely. Ogun should be appeased before embarking on the journey for a safe return which Ifa has promised. The items to sacrifice are a dog, 3 cocks, palm oil, kola nuts, gin, pap and money. Ogun will be appeased with the dog. On this, Ifa says:
Afebo riru boju iku
Afetutu barun mole
A difa fun Orunmila
Baba n sawo relu Etomini
Awa yun rere
Awa bo rere
A yin Obara
A yin Irete

He who uses ebo to cover death
He who uses rituals to cover disease
Ifa revelation to Orunmila
When he was going to the City of Etomini
We have gone well
We have returned well
We praise Obara
We give appreciation to Irete

5.
For those who are longing for wives, Ifa says they should be generous. Those who are generous to people will find good wives while those who are stingy may find it difficult to find good wives, if not find wives at all. Also, single men should always have food at home. Besides home, they should always give food to those who visit them in their places of work. Ebo to be made by anybody who is longing for a wife includes 4 pigeons, honey, eggs, gin, kola nuts and money. On this, Ifa says:
Yangi abori kugu
A difa fun Olobara

6.
It is forbidden for any woman who is longing for a child to adorn her buttocks with beads. Ifa says the beads will prevent her from getting pregnant. Any woman in this situation should sacrifice 4 rats, 4 fish, 4 hens and money. After the ebo, if she has beads on her waist, she will remove it and put it on Esu. On this, Ifa says:
Pankere teere awo inu igbo
Eesun wowo awo egi
A difa fun Olasunmisokun
To n moju ekun sogbere omo

O ko bee ni ko ru

Pankere teere awo inu igbo
Eesun wowo awo egi
Cast Ifa for Olasunmisokun
When longing for children

7.
Still on the issue of child bearing, the barren need to make ebo with 4 fish, 4 rats, 4 hens and a goat. The goat will be sacrificed to Ifa. Any woman who is longing for a child should always stay or live in a cool place. She should not expose herself to heat or hot weather too much. This is because heat or hot weather can lead to miscarriage. On this, Ifa says:
Eda omo odo ni foju joke
Adifa fun Esin-in
Ti n re isale abata
Ti n lo ree kanrile omo ni bibi
Eropo tofa
E bani ni wowo omo

Eda omo odo ni foju joke
Cast Ifa for Esin-in
Who was going to the swampy area
In order to become the parent of many children
All and sundry
Come and meet us amidst children

8.
Ifa warns married women against adultery. There is danger in involving in extra marital affair because, when the secret is exposed, this may lead to the woman being put out of the marital home. Also, married women should be careful not to play too much with men in a place where they fetch, sell or buy water. This is because; their husband may take it to be something that it is not. On the other hand, men should also cease from playing too much with married women. On this, Ifa says:
Benu ni won pe oka
Benu n laa pe ere
A difa fun Aasemoga mogamoga
Ti saya Agbonmireguin
Aase mogamoga oo seni
Aase mogamoga oo seniyan
Aase mogamoga! Emi lo wodo wa doko se?

Ifa revelation to Aase mogamoga
Who was a wife of Orunmila
Aase mogamoga you are not good
Aase mogamoga you are not humane
Aase mogamoga! Why have you come to the river to commit adultery?

9.
Obarairete warns married women to be humble and submissive to the husband. If they are not, this may lead to divorce. Also, there might be regret after such divorce and this may lead such woman to living in abject poverty for long. Furthermore, it may be difficult to get any good husband after the divorce. On the other hand, Ifa has promised any woman who is humble and submissive happiness and profits. On this, Ifa says:
Orunmila ni bojumo ba ti mo
Keni o maa ki oko eni

Who discarded Ifa and said she would never return to Ifa
Birawo!
You are going away
You will not die
You will not fall sick
However, you will not find a comfortable home to settle
You will never find a suitable place to live
Unless you come back to settle with Ifa

10.
This year, there will be a lot of wars against many countries. The army of each country will surely overpower the rebels. Ebo should be made to ensure the victory. The items to sacrifice are 3 he-goats, 3 cocks, palm oil, gin, pap and money. On this, Ifa says:

11.

For long life and sickness, ebo needs to be made with 3 cocks, 3 big rats, one’s used cloth, palm oil, a club and money. On this, Ifa says:

13.
This odu seriously warns against divorce. It warns especially the wives of Ifa/Orisa priests not to consider divorce this year. On this, Ifa reiterates:

Sanponna should be appeased so that there will be no disease. Also, anybody that is travelling should be careful of what he eats or drinks. The hygiene of the place one travels to should also be taken into consideration. The ebo to make here include banana, palm oil, snails, shea butter, paps, boiled corn, pop corn and money. On this, Ifa says:

Esu Odara, you have not done good at all
You should not have postponed making the ebo of Sanponna till the next day

15.
This year, Opele should be used often when making ebo especially for the sick. Ifa has confirmed the effectiveness of making ebo with Opele throughout this year. This does not mean we should not use Ikin and Ifa tray to divine or make ebo. But whenever ebo is to be done for a sick person, Opele is advisable. Also, those who are sick should sacrifice a he-goat, a big rat, palm oil, pap and money. On this, Ifa says:

19.
This year, we should make sure we greet our Ifa/Orisa every morning. And when we are doing this, we need to put our head down to touch the ground. In essence, those who are fond using the hand to touch the ground then touch the head should cease. Therefore, we should always kneel down and use our heads to touch the ground. On this, Ifa says:

20.
Anyone rearing animals or keeping live stock should sacrifice one of each of the animals in his possession. Besides the animal(s), he will add a big rat, palm oil, gin and money to the items of ebo. It is advisable to do this to prevent death. On this Ifa says:

He was told to offer ebo against death
Failure to make ebo
Refusal to make the recommended rituals
We ate this animal in the absence of the owner
Very delicious!
We ate this in the absence of the owner

21.
To fortify ourselves against the enemies, we need to sacrifice 3 cocks, 3 big rats, palm oil, yam, corn and beans. When we do the ebo, an akose will be made with soap for the person to bathe. On this, Ifa says:

My chest has gone afar from the enemies
The beans stretches its stem but cannot reach the farmer
My chest has moved afar from the reach of evil forces
My chest has gone afar from the enemies

22.
This odu says there is conspiracy and wars in the world. Ifa says people are waging war against the authority in the world. This can be the authority in the respective countries. The leader will surely achieve his mission. It is recommended that the leader of each community, state, country or organization should make ebo with a ram, 7 big rats, 7 pigeons, palm oil, pap and money. Each king in Yoruba land should also make this ebo. And the kings should never turn against Yoruba tradition and Ifa/Orisa. Any king who turns against the Orisa, Oduduwa will surely deal with him. On this, Ifa says:
Ayun mi ree, ire ni ki o je
Abo mi ree, ire ni ki o je
Atayun atabo

The child of Olobara will never die in war

23.
Ifa has assured the world that the war from the rebels will surely be suppressed. The leaders need to make ebo. Also, the practitioners of Ifa/Orisa religion are assured of the war against them here and there in the world. The items to sacrifice here are a he-goat, 3 cocks, 3 big rats, pap, palm oil and money. On this, Ifa says:

Ifa says the war on the path should give way for the priests
We shall go through them with impunity
We shall return through them with impunity

24.
This year, Ifa warns those who are chasing another man’s wife. Ifa says anyone who is found in such act will be punished. Those who are suspecting their spouse should make ebo with 3 cocks, 3 big rats, a rope, gin, kola nuts, pap, palm oil and money. On this, Ifa says:

25.
Ifa says people whose children are dying prematurely should initiate them into Ifa. The age of the child does not matter here. On this, Ifa says:

Note: We are aware that some people have published some verses of the odu on the internet. While we are not saying the verses they published are incorrect, we strongly believe that the ones we presented here are the ones recited with inspiration from Olodumare. What we mean is that there can be one thousand verses of Obarairete, but inspiration is what is needed to recite the useful ones at the time of divination; it is inspiration that directs a priest towards the verse(s) he recites on the mat.

We, the members of Ethics and Scripture Committee of the International Council for Ifa Religion, are hereby presenting verses of the Ifa of the year recited with inspiration by the priests on the mat in the early hour os Sunday, 7th June, 2015, which stands as the first day of the year in Ifa calendar system. The odu Ifa that came out for this year is OFUNOSA. The verses of OFUNOSA recited with their narratives are as follows:

1.
Ifa says there should be mutual assistance. Ifa wants us to be complimentarily working together. The people must be seeing doing the right thing to redeem, repair or rescue systems that are in despicable condition. Ebo should be made to have the right people that are sent to do this assignment. The items to sacrifice for this purpose include 8 pigeons, honey, gin, pap and money. On this, Ifa says:
Ofun saara
Ofun seesee

All and sundry
Let us join hands together
To repair our Tooth
It is very white
It has become purely white

2.
In Ofunsa, Ifa says there is somebody who people have conspired against to the extent that they have snatched his power and voice. They stole an inherited property of this person and want the king of his land to punish him for losing what belongs to the whole land. Ifa has recommended that ebo should be made and the person should take the ebo to the farm of his father or the place where the father was buried. The story is about the elephant who was the trumpeter of the king. The other animals conspired and stole the trumpet. They went and buried at the bank of the river. The king noticed that the elephant has not been blowing the trumpet. He then sent for him to come on a festival day to blow the trumpet as usual. The other animals were happy for they knew the king would kill him should he fail to blow trumpet that day. He made ebo which Babalawo told him to take to his father’s farm. After performing ebo as prescribed, as he was going back to his house, his leg hit a stone and he fell down. He looked back to see the cause of his falling down. He saw a stone. To prevent other people from being victim, he was digging the ground to remove the stone. He then realized that there is something under the big the big stone. He dug it out and it was the trumpet he was looking for. Elephant was able to blow the trumpet and other animals felt ashamed. The ebo to make for this to come to pass include, a he-goat, a big rat, pap, palm oil and money. On this, Ifa says:

The issue of Olofin, the king, is always treated with prestige

3.
We need to make ebo so that we are successful in our endeavours. Aje, the Orisa of wealth should be appease. Also, anybody that is looking for wife needs to do the ebo to get a successful wife. The items of ebo are 4 pigeons, honey, gin, money, banana, egg and pap. On this, Ifa says:
Ofun saa

4.
Ebo should be made against sickness. A life gorilla (gorilla head, meat, skin or hide can be used in lieu of life gorilla), beans, 3 cocks, palm oil and brass plate are the items to be used for the ebo. After the ebo, Osun will be appeased. On this Ifa says:
O fun sai

Cast Ifa for Eleju
When he was sick
Struggling in vain to stand up
Rolling around beside the fire to warm his body
Hello!

5.
People will wage war against real owners of property. Such owner(s) should sacrifice a he-goat, 7 cobs of corn/maize, palm oil and money. There is need to be initiated to Ifa and or any other chosen Orisa in order to overcome the usurpers. Ifa says people should always beware of enemies who will always lay ambush or set trap because of inheritance. The story is about Alagemo, the Chameleon. His father’s servants sent him abroad after the death of the father. They planned with the sailor and the crocodile of the ocean to push him into the river and kill him. The Chameleon had a dream, he went for divination. He was told to get initiated into Ifa and he complied. Ifa told him to decorate his body with palm fronds when he was ready to go home. He did as advised to disguise and he escaped the trap. As the people were rejoicing at home and sharing the property among themselves, Alagemo, the chameleon escaped the trap and arrived home. On this, Ifa says:
Ofun sa a lefun
Ofun sa a losun

The Chameleon said
It has been the tradition for the child to inherit his father’s property
It has been the tradition for the child to inherit his father’s belonging
Because of my father’s property
Because of my father’s belongings
You sent me abroad
For the crocodile of the sea and ocean to capture me
Let no one dance at home again
Let none rejoice at home
The crocodile of the sea and ocean could not capture me today, I escaped
Alagemo you shall live long
Plenty of palm fronds
Alagemo you shall be strong
Plenty of palm fronds

6.
Argument should be avoided this year. Everybody should make ebo for his or her children. One needs to know the kind of person the father of one’s child’s friend is. The items to sacrifice to rescue our children from death include white cloth, ashes, 3 cocks, palm oil and money. The story is about Ale, a child of the death and Ojiyan, a child of Orunmila. The child of Iku said the moon would appear today as told by his father while the child of Orunmila argued with him that it would be out in nine days’ time. Each of them claimed that was what his father told him and they abused the father of each other. The child of Orunmila said if the moon appeared that day, the child of Iku should tell his father to come and kill him and vice versa. On getting home, the child of Orunmila gave report of what transpired to his father and Orunmila told him he was wrong. The father immediately called upon Babalawo to make divination. The priests recommended a sacrifice to prevent or delay the appearance of the moon. When Iku heard the story from his child, he was happy because, his child was right. He was out in the night to see the moon so that he could go and kill the child of Orunmila. The ebo made by Orunmila was acceptable and the appearance of the moon was delayed for some days and when it wanted to appear, it did not appear once as usual but bit by bit. Therefore, the death could not kill the child of Orunmila. On this, Ifa says:
Ofun sa lefun
Ofun sa losun
Ofun sa ni moriwo ope yeeyeeyee
A difa fun Ale omo Iku
A bu fun Ojiyan omo Orunmila
Nijo ti won n jiyan

Ofun marks it with chalk
Ofun marks it with camwood
Ofun adorns it with palm frond gorgeously
Cast Ifa for Ale, the child of Iku
Cast Ifa for Ojiyan, the child of Orunmila
When they were arguing
They were advised to make ebo
It was only Ojiyan who made the recommended ebo
And his ebo was acceptable
It was Ojiyan who delayed the appearance of the moon
It is today that the moon was supposed to appear
It was Ojiyan who delayed the appearance of the moon

7.
Ifa says people should show true love towards one another. There are enemies among friends. Many people though friends do not pray for greatness for one another. Items to sacrifice here include a big rat, a cock, pap, palm oil and money. On this Ifa says:
Ofun saarasa
Babalawo Eera lo difa fun Eera
A bu fun poporo
Lojo ti won n se ore atilewa

Don’t you know that the Ant does not fully love the corn stick
People only have no genuine love for one
People does not pray for one to eat with an expensive plate

8.
There will be competition over position or chieftaincy this year. We have to be careful about given out chieftaincy titles to people who do not deserve them. Ebo should be made so that the right person will always get to the throne or receive the title. Ifa says one should be gentle and humble, not harsh so that one will have support of the people whenever one is recommended for any title. There is need to make ebo to make people happy at one and support one. The items to sacrifice are pigeons, banana, honey, pap, cold water and money. On this, Ifa says:

Only Osupa, the Moon made the ebo
It is only Osupa, the Moon that can be glanced at
Whoever glanced at the Sun will have his eyes suffered
It is only Osupa, the Moon that can be looked at

9.
People should always not be overconfident. There should always be acceptance of the fact that no one is perfect and everybody should seek advice from people who know more. This will give long life to people and it will make all the rituals done this year acceptable. On this, Ifa says:
Ofun sa a lefun
Ofun sa a losun
Ofun sa a ni moriwo yeeyeeyee
A difa fun Alagemo, ti se wolewode Orisa
Alagemo kii ku

10.
Ifa has promised to bless all the devotees this year. We should all be grateful to Ifa and we should profess his greatness to the whole world. Ifa should be appeased with 2 rats, 2 fish, 2 hens, a goat, kola nuts, gin and money. On this, Ifa says:
Ope se nahinnahin dagba

11.
Ifa warns us against conspiracy and being mischievous. This is because, the plans of the conspirators and mischievous people will be fruitless. Those who are conspired against need to make ebo with a he-goat, 3 big rats, palm oil, pap and money. After the ebo, an akose will be done in form of soap or powder to lick. On this, Ifa says:

12.
Evil forces will be too many this year. People need to make ebo to repel them. The story here is about Orunmila. When evil forces were ready to go to his house, he made divination and made ebo. The ebo was done with yam porridge and put inside a clay lamp with 16 faces. He put 16 cotton treads in it and lit the fire. He was taking it to Esu with the fire burning. As he was going, he was eating the porridge from the lamp. The evil forces saw him and they thought he was eating/swallowing live coal from the fire because the yam porridge looked like live coal as he is putting it into the mouth. Therefore, they were all afraid of going to the house of Orunmila. The ebo to make here are yam, pepper, palm oil, clay lamp, cotton wool, 3 cocks and money. On this, Ifa says:
Ofun sa lefun

13.
The leader of the city, state, nation or any society should make ebo to overcome those who are planning to reduce him to nothing. There will be many conspirators against the leader this year. However, with ebo, Ifa has promised to make the leader victorious. There should be ebo with one he-goat, 3 big rats, elephant, buffalo and deer meats, palm oil and money. After the ebo, an akose will be made to make the leader recognized and popular. On this, Ifa says:

It is inside the forest that the deer stays and become successful and popular

14.
Ifa says many rituals and prayers were not acceptable last year. This year, we must always appease Ogun and Osanying to make our sacrifices and prayers acceptable. Ogun should be appeased with a dog and there should be palm frond there when we want to do the appeasement. Osanyin should be appeased with a cock and palm frond must be there as well. On this, Ifa says:

15.
The sick must appease the Iyami for there will be many sickness this year that will not be ordinary but spiritual attack from the Iyami Aje. Anybody that is sick, besides using the recommended medication should make ebo with a big rat, 3 cocks, palm oil, pap and money. Also, an akose to pacify the Iyami should be used by people throughout this year. On this, Ifa says:

16.
There will be many marriages and marital issues this year. People should make ebo to have comfortable marital settlement. Ifa says we should not be ungrateful to any Orisa. Oya should be appeased with a he-goat, 3 cocks, palm oil and money so that Oya will avenge on behalf of the Orisa that is not appreciated. The story is about the city of Erin where they were ungrateful to Obalufon. It was Oya who went to the city to avenge. Furthermore, anybody longing for children has to appease Oya and Obalufon. And she should never be ungrateful to the Orisa. Also, here, siblings should be ready to assist one another. On this, Ifa says:
O fun sai

20.
Ifa says people should refrain from stealing this year because, the thieves will be caught and disgraced. Also, anybody whose property is stolen is advised to make ebo and appease Osanyin. The items to sacrifice are 3 cocks, a big rat, palm frond, rope, pap and money. the story is about the tortoise who dressed himself with palm frond to scare people at the market of Ejigbomekun. After the people might have run away with fear, the Tortoise would steal their commodities. The market people then went for divination and they were told to employ Osanyin. It was Osanyin who caught the tortoise and he was disgraced. On this, Ifa says:

21.
Ifa says adultery should be refrained from. If not, the secret will be revealed and the husband of the woman will get to know. This is important because, Ifa says the husband has been suspicious. It is advisable for a man not to go to the house of his friend to look after the family when his friend is not around. For one to catch the concubine of one’s wife, one needs to make sacrifice with white chalk, camwood, 3 cocks, palm oil, pap and money. Also, Ifa warns that we refrain from any taboo or forbidden item. On this, Ifa says:
Ka sa lefun
Ka sa losun
Ka sa ni moriwo ope yebeyebe

Note: We are aware that some people have published some verses of the odu on the internet. While we are not saying the verses they published are incorrect, we strongly believe that the ones we presented here are the ones recited with inspiration from Olodumare. What we mean is that there can be one thousand verses of Ofunosa, but inspiration is what is needed to recite the useful ones at the time of divination; it is inspiration that directs a priest towards the verse(s) he recites on the mat.

Those who marry this year shall enjoy compatibility with their spouses this year. Ifa advises those intending to get married this year to offer ebo with four rats, four fish, two hens and one mature she goat each. Two rats, two fish, one hen shall be used to feed Ifa.

On this, Ifa says:

Ifa advises all devotees to be more prayerful and more dedicated to their respective professional callings and all shall be well this year. Ifa advises each of us to offer ebo with two pigeons, two guinea-fowls and money. Each of us also need to feed Ifa with four rats and four fish. There is also the need to feed Aje with one white pigeon, ekuru and honey.

On this, Ifa says:

5. Ifa advises all Ifa/Orisa groups to offer ebo in order for the groups to continue to increase in number. Ifa says that the number of devotees is too small when compared to other spiritual groups. Ifa says that we need to make conscious efforts to increase the number of Ifa/Orisa devotees this year and at the same time, ensure that quality of spirituality is not compromised. The ebo materials here are two mature rams and money. One of the two rams will be used to feed the ancestors. They also need to feed Ibeji as prescribed by Ifa.

Oturupon Sokun
F’agada la’mi

6. Ifa advises all Ifa groups or communities the world over to offer ebo against multiple deaths in quick succession. Ifa warns that there is going to be a higher rate of natural disaster this year as compared to that of the previous year. There is the need for all Ifa and Orisa devotees to take more active part in finding solutions to the problems plaguing their respective communities. It is obvious that the present solutions being found to societal problems have failed woefully. There is therefore the need for all Ifa and Orisa devotees to bring original solutions which only Ifa can provide to save the societies where they live. The ebo materials here are two mature rams, two mature he-goats and money. One of the he-goats will be used to feed Ogun while one the two rams will be used to feed Oro. Part of the second he-goat that was used to offer ebo will be used as Ipese for Obaluaye. This is in order to prevent malevolent spirits from entering their midst.

And they were dying in their youth
They were advised to offer ebo
They complied
Death please move away from this land
Affliction move away from the land
Contention, go out from this land
Loss, get out of this land

7. Ifa says that one of the causes of multiple deaths this coming year is most likely going to be flooding and large bodies of water overflowing their banks. This is the reason why those living close to where there is large expanse of water, especially oceans and lagoon will feel the impact of the threat more than any other groups. It is therefore in their best interest to reconsider their location and make adequate plans for such contigencies this oncoming year. Ifa advises us to offer ebo with two he goats and money. One of the he goats will be used to feed Esu Odara.

On this, Ifa says:

Osupa lo ti inu okun la wa

10. Ifa warns all devotees to be very careful in the way that they tell their stories. Even though everything that they are saying will be the truth, unfortunately this truth will very offensive to many people, because it will bring them ridicule and makes them very uncomfortable. This may lead the speakers of the truth to find it difficult if not totally impossible to achieve their ambitions in life. It may also lead to a situation where they will be segregated and discriminated upon in the community. Ebo materials; two roosters, two hens and money.
